Fernando's Christmas Songs Are Shining There For You And Me

Fernando Ortega is a New Mexico Christian music artist who both writes and sings his own compositions as well as interpreting faith based songs written by others. With well over a dozen albums to his name it is his 2008 release 'Christmas Songs' that we are most fond of. The album made a decent impression on the Billboard Holiday Chart in 2009 which is hardly surprising given the craft on show. Ortego chose the album tracks well with plenty of little known gems scattered over the 10-track recording. 'Come, Thou Long Expected Jesus', 'Jesus, King Of Angels', 'Let All Mortal Flesh' may not be regulars on most people's Christmas playlist but Fernando presses their case for inclusion with aplomb. With several instrumentals and a generally hushed approach 'Christmas Songs' is ideally suited for playing in the background while you go around conducting your festive business. This is an album that is instrumental focused and Ortega shows his expertise in pulling the disparate instruments into a cohesive whole. At the same time Ortega adds his soothing vocals to bring a unique dimension to carols that have lasted through the ages like 'O Little Town Of Bethlehem', 'Angels We Have Heard On High' and 'Joy To The World'.
