How'd You Like To Spend Christmas With Christmas Isla?

Having being brought up on the family farm in Scotland left an indelible impression on country singer/composer Isla Grant so it was no surprise that her 14-track Christmas album from 2009 was called ‘Home For Christmas’. With her country jive Grant’s audience extends from her native land across the Irish sea to Ireland and one of the album’s original tracks ‘Going Home To Ireland For Christmas’ does the job it needs to do very well. Elsewhere Isla chooses the covers she takes on very well with her rendition of Jim Reeves ‘An Old Christmas Card’ a perfect example of nostalgia given a new lick of paint. ‘Home For Christmas’ has a pleasing mix of secular and religious songs with the reverential ‘Star of Bethlehem’ and ‘The Day That Christ Was Born’ sitting easily beside the slow burning ‘Winter Burning’ and a typically rollicking ‘Rocking Around The Christmas Tree’. Isla really puts everything into these festive recordings with the result that ‘Home For Christmas’ is a couple notches above your average, ho-hum country Christmas release.
