Nothing Compares 2Yule

Dublin singer Sinead O’Connor has had her fair share of controversies throughout a career that goes back to the late 1980’s. Her talent is the one thing that no one ever disputes and though her output may have taken a downward route since the highs of the early days her voice still resonates. But it is to 1991 that we focus our attention for that is when O’Connor released her version of the 19th century Christmas carol ‘Silent Night’. Coming in the wake of her remarkable sophomore album ‘I Do Not Want What I Haven't Got’ this displayed an artist who was capable of turning fragility into an artform. O’Connor chose wisely as 'Silent Night' was a perfect fit for her ethereal vocals. Besides her singing there is minimal background effects, save for a solid synth (supplied by Peter rather than the Angel Gabriel). Peter Gabriel also produced the piece and he must be commended for keeping it simple.
