As Christmas in July draws to a close it looks like all we have to look forward to now is the real thing in December. But Christmas in July 2013 has thrown up plenty of its own tiny miracles and one that we’ll remember for a long time is David Archuleta’s ascendancy to the top of the Billboard Classical album charts for his Christmas release ‘Glad Christmas Tidings’ with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. Yes you read that right, a 2011 Christmas album holding court on one of the most important music charts in the USA in the middle of summer! The runner-up on the 7th series of American Idol in 2008 sings on 6 of the 13 tracks including ‘Joy to the World’, ‘The Cat and Mouse Carol’, and ‘Silent Night’ and given that Archuleta had previously recorded his own Christmas album ‘Christmas From The Heart’ it is no surprise that his vocals display a subtle mastery of the season. What next I wonder, the Beach Boys 'California Girls' becomes a Christmas hit?
