To a large degree punk rock has left Christmas untouched of its charms, the lack of symmetry between the humble carol and the ferocious riff means that they hardly make easy bedfellows. But now and then (and we’re thinking the Ramones ‘Merry Christmas - I Don’t Want To Tonight’) something does emerge from the genre that is deserving of a December soundtrack. Step forward veteran LA punk rockers Bad Religion who are about to unleash their first Christmas album. ‘Christmas Songs’ is due at the end of Octoober and it will see Greg Graffin and co. make standards such as ‘White Christmas’, ‘God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen’ and ‘Hark! The Herald Angels Sing’ blush at their new found brasher selves. All told it should be a hoot especially for those sleepy post-Christmas dinner moments when something is needed to kick start the celebrations.
