Sport and Music Continue To The Be Winners With 'A Very Special Christmas'

If you are familiar with Yuleplay you’ll see how we like to pepper our discussions of the great Christmas songs with mentions of the ‘A Very Special Christmas’ series of compilations. The venerable collections have been arriving since 1987 with all proceeds ( the $100 million mark has been passed recently) going to the Special Olympics. That in itself is worthy of mention but ‘ A Very Special Christmas’ albums are generally of such a high standard to get attention all by themselves. A new edition generally arrives every few years and 2013 will be graced by ‘A Very Special Christmas: Icon’. This time rather than new renditions of old favourites we will be treated by the classics themselves. Chief among them is the Yoko Ono donated track ‘Happy Xmas (War is Over)’ which she recorded with her late husband John Lennon. Elsewhere there are established Christmas standards such as Wham’s ‘Last Christmas’, Elvis’ ‘Blue Christmas’ and Aretha Franklin’s ‘Winter Wonderland’. There is one original track from singer Nicole Scherzinger who recorded her version of ‘O Holy Night’ especially for the release.
