With a release date of September 30th it looks like Michael W. Smith's 'Michael W. Smith & Friends: The Spirit of Christmas' is going to be the frontrunner for most prestigious Christmas album of 2014. Although the Christian artist is no stranger to Christmas releases (this will be his 4th festive LP) 'The Spirit of Christmas' is undoubtedly his most ambitious effort with a multitude of top music names lending a helping hand. Bono from U2 gets the floor to himself (he wouldn't have it any other way!) on the spoken word 'The Darkest Midnight' while 80's legend Michael McDonald joins Smith on closing track 'Peace'. With 14 tracks and a myriad of other big name guest stars like Amy Grant, Carrie Underwood and Vince Gill involved this is one album that will have Christmas fans pining for late September and the start of the holiday countdown.
