Southern Gospel Christmas songs are by their nature vocal led and given that the recurring theme is one of Christian devotion they seem particularly suited to the season. So while the collected recordings on this playlist may not feature names you quickly recognise you should be quickly won over by the universal Christmas themes on show. The male quartet known the Kingsmen open up proceedings with a unique perspective featuring the location where it all ended for Jesus as opposed to where it all began on 'Christmas At Calvary'. It is a fresh approach and one that leaves a lasting impression.

Southern Gospel music has a unique style and while some might be slow to warm to its charms the fact that the artists involved mostly sing well known Christmas tunes should be enough to win you over. For the converted songs such as 'Going Home For Christmas' by the Inspirations and 'I'd Still Like to go to Grandma's House For Christmas' by the Talleys is like manna from heaven. Gold City are also worth singling out as their 'O Holy Night (Cantique De Noel)' should be on everyone's Christmas song list as it captures the magic and awe of the best season of the year.
