If you've ever been to midnight mass on Christmas Eve you'll know what a special occasion it is. And this playlist of old Christmas carols and songs should set in motion plenty of memories from this much anticipated yearly event. All of the most famous carols are present and counted with renditions from some of the best choirs around the world like St. Paul's Cathedral Choir and Westminster Abbey Choir which are both from the UK and the Mormon Tabernacle Choir from the United States who are an almost ever present on the Christmas circuit. While the versions here of 'Silent Night', 'Once In Royal David's City' and 'Hark! The Herald Angels Sing' are as they were originally intended when they were written back in the 17th and 18th centuries there is the whiff of contemporary thinking on Canadian bandleader Percy Faith's 'God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen'. And what a joy it is. Christmas carols feel like they've been with us always and that is unlikely to change as the future stretches to infinity.
