This second list of old time Christmas songs (you can listen to Volume One here) will undoubtedly appeal to old timers but the plan is that they will also offer comfort and joy to those of a younger generation. What is most surprising about this list of classic Christmas music is that we haven’t had to resort of favourites such as Bing Crosby or Dean Martin to stack up an impressive collection. Many of the artists and most of the songs are relative unknowns which is a huge shame because they deserve plenty of limelight each December. Imagine the joy on old and young faces as Terry Fell & The Fellers ‘We Wanna See Santa Do The Mambo’ from 1957 does its thang. Equally inspiring is the Jaynetts (best known for their huge hit ‘Sally Go 'Round the Roses’) ‘Snowman Snowman, Sweet Potato Nose’ which has that early 1960’s sound down. Not in the least bit surprising given that it was recorded in 1963 mind you! With vocals that recall Dusty Springfield, dreamy woodwind parts and some glorious vocal harmonies that is the epitome of a lost Christmas classic.
