1980’s music gets a bad press but for all the criticism that is thrown at it you can’t deny that it has produced its fair share of memorable songs. And that decade was certainly the golden age for Christmas songs from British artists. You’ll already know most of the songs on this playlist and several of them will probably be in your Top 10 Christmas songs of all time. We certainly couldn’t go through Christmas without Band Aid’s ‘Do They Know It’s Christmas’, Wham’s ‘Last Christmas’, Chris Rea’s ‘Driving Home For Christmas’ or Paul McCartney’s ‘Wonderful Christmastime’. Perhaps Maggie Thatcher helped build a latent expression of happiness and the creatives decided to plug into it. Whatever the reasons this was a special time for British Christmas music and the songs that came from that time will never leave us.
