Given the decade that was in it you won’t be too surprised that our list of 60s Christmas songs is peppered with outright classics. 69 of them to be precise, a who’s who that could for all intents and purposes serve as the only collection you’ll need over the holidays. You’ll recognise many of the songs and even know the words to some. Like Darlene Love’s ‘Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)’ which really has been the quintessential perennial since it first appeared on Phil Spector’s Christmas album way back in 1963. There are many other classics here like the Beach Boys ‘Little St. Nick’, ‘Holly Jolly Christmas’ from Burl Ives, Jim Reeves ‘An Old Christmas Card’ and Andy Williams glacial ‘It’s The Most Wonderful Time of The Year’ to get the nostalgia feeling running through your veins.

On such a large playlist there are also bound to be new finds that will tickle your Christmas fancy. Brenda Lee is best known for her ‘Rockin Around the Christmas Tree’ but her yuletide output included unheralded gems like ‘Christmas Will Be Just Another Lonely Day’ which was released as a b-side to her ‘Winter Wonderland’ single in 1964. The Diana Ross led Supremes are another well-known act from 60’s and their Christmas album ‘Merry Christmas’ yielded a song that called ‘Children’s Christmas Song’. With church bells and children's voices aplenty it hardly makes sense that it only gets rare outings come December. Movie star Cary Grant’s ‘Christmas Lullaby’ also falls into the not-much-listened-to category and though it is mostly a talkie song it has its heart in the right place and would surely offer sustenance to those who’ve overdosed on the same batch of Christmas songs each year. The same could be said of husband and wife team Eydie Gorme and Steve Lawrence who produced a really contemporary sounding LP (and we're saying this 50 years later) in 1964 called ‘That Holiday Feeling’. The title track is a vibrant kaleidoscope of possibility with the pair giving ‘Baby, It’s Cold Outside’ a run for its money in the loved up stakes.
